Croatia

Croatia's motorway toll class jumps at 1.90 m of height, not 1.3 m, and a motorhome over 3.5 tonnes is capped at 80 km/h on the motorway, not 90 km/h.

Poland

Wild camping in Poland is banned in forests and national parks, allowed on private land with permission. Over 3.5t: 70-80 km/h and e-TOLL required.

Portugal

Portugal bans motorhome overnight stays outside authorised places: EUR 60-300, doubling to EUR 120-600 inside Rede Natura 2000 and protected areas.

Sweden

Motorhomes are excluded from Sweden's Allemansratten camping right; use a Stallplats, 100-300 SEK a night. Weight of 3,500-7,500 kg changes speed limits.

Austria

Cross 3.5 tonnes in Austria and the motorway limit falls to 80 km/h against 130 for a car, 70 on rural roads — and the vignette gives way to the GO-Box.

Czechia

Czech e-vignettes cover vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes only, so a heavier motorhome joins the per-kilometre toll instead. Speed is capped at 80 km/h either way.

Denmark

A Danish motorhome over 3.5 tonnes is held to 80 km/h on country roads and on the motorway too, where cars do 130. The Great Belt bridge is the real cost.

France

Over 3.5 tonnes a French motorhome is capped at 110 km/h, and rain takes it to 100. What strands visitors is the Crit'Air sticker, not the aires.

Greece

Greek tolls go by height: over 2.20 m with two or three axles is class 3, EUR 6.30 against EUR 2.50 for a car at Elefsina; speeding starts at EUR 150.

Hungary

Hungary's KRESZ caps vehicles over 3,500 kg at 80 km/h on motorways and 70 on other roads outside towns; a missed e-vignette costs a HUF 27,790 surcharge.

Iceland

From 1 November to 14 April every tyre needs 3 mm of tread and studs are allowed. No motorways, a 90 km/h cap, and camping off-site is banned.

Ireland

Irish local rural roads dropped to 60 km/h in February 2025, which is where most motorhome routes run — and the M50 toll must be paid by 8pm the next day.

Italy

Over 3.5 tonnes an Italian motorhome is capped at 80 km/h outside towns and 100 on the autostrada, and pays 50 percent more than a car to park.

Netherlands

A Dutch motorhome over 3,500 kg is capped at 80 km/h everywhere outside towns, motorways included. Wild camping is out; two tunnels still charge a fee.

Norway

The Norwegian right to camp is 150 metres from the nearest house and two nights, and it covers tents — a motorhome may not leave the road to use it.

Spain

The DGT gives a homologated motorhome the same speed limits as a car, and draws the line that counts at the awning - park and sleep yes, camp no.

Switzerland

A Swiss motorhome under 3.5 tonnes pays CHF 40 a year and runs at 120 km/h. Cross that line and it is 80 km/h everywhere plus the heavy vehicle charge.

United Kingdom

The UK splits motorhome speed limits at 3.05 tonnes unladen, not 3.5. Heavier vans drop to 50 and 60 mph off the motorway but keep 70 mph on it.

Finland

Everyman's Right keeps wild camping legal in Finland and there are no road tolls - but a motorhome over 3.5 tonnes is pinned to 80 km/h on motorways.

Germany

Wild camping is prohibited across most of Germany, though one night's parking is often tolerated: 3,500-plus Stellplatz cost free to EUR 15 a night.
