Bulgaria joined the euro on 1 January 2026. The prices below are the euro tariff that took effect on 1 August 2026 (a 30% increase across all categories), confirmed independently by BNT News and Novinite (Sofia News Agency). If bgtoll.bg’s own checkout still shows leva (лв.) at any point, the fixed conversion is EUR 1.00 = 1.95583 leva.

How to Buy a Vignette

1. Online (recommended): Most countries sell e-vignettes on official websites. Buy before you arrive and it activates on your chosen date.
2. Border crossings: Vignettes are sold at major border entry points, but queues can be long.
3. Petrol stations: Available at service stations near borders and throughout the country.
4. Post offices: Some countries sell vignettes through their postal service.

Five vignette mistakes that actually cost people money

• Buying at the first petrol station inside the country. Cameras sit at the border and on the first motorway stretch — you need the vignette active before your wheels touch the motorway, not 20 km in.
• Looking for a sticker that doesn’t exist. Czechia, Hungary, Slovenia and most others are plate-linked e-vignettes now. Nothing to display; one plate typo and you’re effectively uninsured against the fine.
• Duration guesswork. Switzerland sells annual only (CHF 40) — no 10-day escape. Austria jumps from 10 days straight to 2 months.
• Assuming Google’s top result is the official site. Resellers charge €10-20 “service fees” for a €12 vignette. Use the official portals: asfinag.at, edalnice.cz, evinjeta.dars.si.
• Assuming your rental already has one. Cars rented in-country usually do; cross a border and that’s on you — ask at the desk.
