Tips for Saving on European Tolls

  1. Buy vignettes online before arrival — digital vignettes in Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, and others can be purchased on official websites and activated instantly.
  2. Use free alternatives — national roads (N-roads, B-roads) run parallel to many toll motorways, adding time but saving money.
  3. Get a transponder for frequent crossings — Telepass (Italy), Via Verde (Portugal), and BroBizz (Scandinavia) speed up passage and sometimes offer discounts.
  4. Check for multi-country passes — some transponders work across borders (Telepass covers Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, and Croatia).
