It’s at the bottom of the Corso, just outside Porta al Prato, the main gate — park there and you simply walk through the arch and climb the Corso up into the heart of town. It’s the shortest, most obvious route in, which is exactly why it fills first. If it’s full, the numbered lots continue around and below the town, so keep following the “P” signs rather than doubling back.
P8 Il Bersaglio — cheap, but coins only
Down on Via dei Filosofi, P8 “Il Bersaglio” is the budget option: about €1.50 an hour or €10 for the day, with some free white-lined spaces if you’re lucky and early. Two catches worth knowing before you pull in — the payment machine takes coins only, so raid the car’s ashtray for change beforehand, and it sits below the centre, so you’ve got a 200-metre, roughly five-minute climb up to Piazza Grande. There’s a path straight up from the lot.
The line-colour rule, one more time
It matters here because free and paid spaces sit side by side in the same lots: blue = paid, white = free, yellow = residents only. The free white bays are real, but they’re gone by mid-morning in season, so don’t count on one.
Staying in town?
If your accommodation is inside the walls, don’t try to drive up to the door — the ZTL camera won’t distinguish “just dropping bags” from anything else. Park in a numbered lot, walk in, and let the property tell you how they handle luggage; many can sort a permitted drop-off if you arrange it ahead.
