Denmark Low Emission Zones (Miljøzone) 2026 — Cities, Rules & Fines

Every Danish miljøzone in one place: which cities restrict older diesels, the digital registration, the Euro standards, and the fine for driving in non-compliant.

Denmark’s miljøzoner target older diesels — and the physical sticker has been replaced by digital, camera-enforced checks against your plate. Petrol cars are generally unaffected; the rules bite on diesel cars, vans, lorries and buses below the required Euro standard, and foreign diesels must register online first.

How the Danish miljøzone works

Denmark’s zones are diesel-focused. The minimum Euro standard rises on a national schedule, so a diesel that qualifies today can be excluded at the next step. Enforcement moved to a digital, plate-based system — there is no windscreen sticker to display, but a foreign diesel vehicle must be registered in the Danish system before it enters a zone. Copenhagen sets the pace, with Aarhus, Odense and Aalborg following the same national framework.

Before you drive

  • If you drive a diesel, check its Euro class against the current zone requirement.
  • Register a foreign diesel online before entering — there is no sticker to buy at the border.
  • Petrol and electric cars are generally fine, but confirm for the specific city.
