Zaragoza ZBE 2026: Weekdays 08:00-20:00, Fines Live

Zaragoza’s ZBE is a weekday zone: the city’s own FAQ puts it at “de lunes a viernes, de 8,00 a 20,00 horas”, enforceable from 12 December 2025 (zaragoza.es). Outside that window, and all weekend, nothing is restricted. Inside it, any car carrying a DGT label — B, C, ECO or 0 — drives through freely; only cars with no label are kept out. Zaragoza does not publish a penalty figure of its own.

What the city actually asks of you

One question: does your car carry a DGT environmental label. If it carries B, C, ECO or CERO, you may enter the regulated perimeter and park in it during the restricted window. If it carries none, you may not, unless you fall under one of the ordinance’s exemptions — disabled badge holders, emergency and essential services, and so on.

Nothing here is written as a Euro number. The DGT scale behind the labels puts the boundary at petrol registered from 2000 and diesel from 2006 — below that, no label exists to be issued.

The penalty question, answered honestly

Zaragoza’s FAQ does not name an amount. It says sanctions “se aplicarán conforme a lo que establezca la Ley de Tráfico, tanto en su calificación como en su cuantía” — that is, classification and amount both come from the national traffic act. Unauthorised entry to a Spanish low-emission zone is treated as a grave infraction, which carries €200 and no licence points, halved to €100 if you pay within twenty days of the notice. Any site quoting €200 as “Zaragoza’s fine” is quoting the national figure, and so are we.

Getting a label on a foreign car

The distintivo is issued by the DGT, costs about €5 and is ordered through sede.dgt.gob.es or at a post office. Foreign-registered vehicles can be assessed against the same scale, but the paperwork takes time — start it well before the trip rather than at the perimeter.

Spanish rental cars are labelled as a matter of course; the exceptions are older fleet cars and peer-to-peer rentals. It takes ten seconds to look at the windscreen at pickup.

Planning around the window

The simplest trick in Zaragoza is the clock. The restriction lifts at 20:00 and does not return until 08:00 the next working day, and it never applies at weekends — so an unlabelled car can legitimately reach a city-centre hotel on a Friday evening and leave on Sunday without ever meeting the rule. Park-and-ride on the tram line is the fallback for weekday arrivals.
