Troyes 2026: The ZFE People Search For Does Not Exist
Zone à Faibles Emissions · France · Announced but never introduced
Source: official source · Verified: 2026-09-19
Troyes has no ZFE. The city's own search returns nothing for it and the government register of 25 French low-emission zones omits Troyes, so no Crit'Air vignette and no fine apply.
Didn’t France abolish its low-emission zones?
No — the repeal never took effect. Parliament did vote in April 2026 to abolish France’s ZFEs, which is why so many guides and news reports say they are gone. The Conseil constitutionnel struck that article down on 21 May 2026 (décision n° 2026-903 DC), so the ZFE provisions of the code général des collectivités territoriales (articles L. 2213-4-1 and L. 2213-4-2) stayed on the books.
One caveat most coverage misses: the article was annulled on procedure, not on its merits — the Council held it was a “cavalier législatif”, an amendment with no link to the bill it was attached to (Constitution, art. 45). Parliament can pass the same repeal again in a properly related bill, so this is settled for now rather than settled for good. Read the decision.

Two checks settle it. The Ministry’s register of French low-emission zones at mieuxrespirerenville.gouv.fr lists 25 ZFEs and Troyes is not one; and a search for “ZFE” on Troyes Champagne Métropole’s own site returns no result. Drive in with any Euro class.

What the register actually shows for the Grand Est
The Ministry groups its list by region. Under Grand-Est it names three: Métropole du Grand Nancy, Grand Reims and the Eurométropole de Strasbourg. Troyes, Châlons-en-Champagne and the rest of the Aube and the Marne outside Reims carry no circulation restriction by Crit’Air class.
That matters because Troyes sits on a popular route between Paris and Dijon, and drivers who bought a vignette for the Grand Paris zone often assume a second checkpoint is waiting further south. There is none until Dijon Métropole.
Driving through Troyes in practice
The constraints in the centre are ordinary urban ones — the pedestrianised streets around the Bouchon de Champagne, paid on-street parking and a 30 km/h limit on most of the old town’s lanes. None of them look at your emissions class, and none of them are enforced by a Crit’Air camera.
If a prefectoral pollution alert is ever declared over the Aube, temporary speed reductions and occasional circulation limits can follow, announced on the préfecture’s site and on the motorway panels. Those are short-lived orders, not a permanent zone.
Recent changes to this page
- Rewritten after checking both the national ZFE register at mieuxrespirerenville.gouv.fr and Troyes Champagne Metropole's own site, which returns no ZFE page at all. The earlier text described a Crit'Air 2 diesel cutoff, weekday enforcement and a EUR 68 fine that no local order has ever created.
- Title, description and introduction rewritten from this page's own data (no shared template wording).
- An earlier check recorded a EUR 68 fine and a Crit'Air requirement here. That was wrong, as the 19 September 2026 entry above explains.
