Santa Cruz de Tenerife published its initial approval in BOP nº 56/2026 on 11 May 2026 and its definitive approval in BOP nº 101/2026 on 24 August 2026 (Ayuntamiento de Santa Cruz de Tenerife). Asked whether fines start on day one, the city answers no: a period long enough “para que todos entendamos el sistema” comes first. So the boundary exists on paper, no DGT label is checked at any entrance, and the fine today is zero.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife ZBE — Zona de Bajas Emisiones
Santa Cruz de Tenerife has approved a Zona de Bajas Emisiones covering the centre of the city, but approving an ordinance and switching on a camera are two different days. The approved text sets restrictions that will depend on three factors together — working days, the state of air pollution and the type of vehicle — rather than a single fixed rule, and the city has committed to a run-in period before any of it carries a penalty.
Who Can Enter?
Every vehicle, today. No Euro class, DGT label or permit is checked at any point on the planned boundary, because the enforcement stage has not begun.
Sticker / Permit
Nothing is required now. The scheme, when it starts, will work off the DGT environmental label, which costs EUR 5 from the DGT — worth knowing if you are continuing to a mainland Spanish city that already enforces its own zone.
Operating Hours
None in operation. The ordinance ties access windows to working days, pollution readings and vehicle category, and those windows only start to bite once the city ends the familiarisation period.
Fines
No fine applies. The ayuntamiento’s own answer on whether sanctions apply from the first day is a plain no.
Where the zone will run
The approved perimeter covers roughly 778,000 square metres, taking in most of the El Toscal and Centro neighbourhoods, with Calle Méndez Núñez, the Rambla de Santa Cruz and the Avenida de Anaga as the main boundary streets. Worth a look on the map if you are booking a hotel inside that block for a later trip.

- Nothing to arrange for Tenerife this year — but check the ayuntamiento page before a 2027 trip, because the start date for sanctions is the thing to watch
- If you are renting on the island and then driving in mainland Spain, the label question belongs to the mainland city, not to this one
