Positano ZTL — a size rule wearing an emission badge
The Amalfi Coast’s most photographed village sits on one road, and that single street is why the scheme exists. Rather than filtering by pollution class, Positano charges the vehicles that fill the carriageway: minibuses and coaches. The Euro class only sets the price for a coach — and screens out the oldest ones entirely.
Who pays, and how much
- Motor vehicles with six or more seats including the driver must be registered on the portal. Tariffs: EUR 5 for a single transit, EUR 100 a month, EUR 500 for a half-year (January–June or July–December) and EUR 800 a year.
- Coaches up to 7.70 m long and 2.20 m wide, Euro 3 or newer, pay per transit by class: EUR 60 Euro 6, EUR 70 Euro 5, EUR 80 Euro 4, EUR 90 Euro 3.
- Coaches over 21 seats and lorries over 3.5 tonnes face an absolute, permanent ban along the whole route, scheduled service buses excepted.
- Payment is due within 72 hours of entry, and a paid monthly or annual permit also covers transits made in the 72 hours before payment.

Create an account on ztlpositano.it — as a private individual if you have no Italian tax code — and upload the registration certificate as a PDF before adding the vehicle. If you are arriving by car
A five-seat car is outside the charge, which changes the problem rather than solving it: parking is the real constraint. Private garages above the village fill early in summer and charge accordingly. The SITA bus from Sorrento or Amalfi and the seasonal ferries from Salerno, Sorrento and Capri avoid the question altogether.
Fines
Failure to buy or display the entry ticket is dealt with under the Highway Code articles on stopping and parking, with the vehicle liable to be removed. The standard Italian ZTL penalty band is EUR 83-332, cut by 30% if paid within five days.
