“In Pforzheim gilt die Umweltzone seit dem 01.01.2009”, the city writes, and since 1 January 2013 only vehicles carrying the green Feinstaubplakette may drive in (Stadt Pforzheim). The federal zone register lists Pforzheim as active with no end date (Umweltbundesamt). The restriction runs permanently — the city is explicit that it applies whether air pollution is high or low — and driving in without the green sticker costs EUR 100.

Pforzheim Emission Zone
The Umweltzone in Pforzheim has been in force since 1 January 2009 as part of the Karlsruhe regional clean-air plan. Like most Baden-Württemberg zones it moved through the sticker colours in stages — all colours at first, then yellow and green from 2012, then green alone from 2013 — and it has stayed at that final stage ever since.
Who Can Enter?
- Petrol vehicles: need a regulated catalytic converter, which covers Euro 1 and newer
- Diesel vehicles: must meet at least Euro 4, or Euro 3 with a retrofitted particulate filter
- Electric and fuel-cell cars: sticker-free from 1 October 2026 with an E-plate or the blue E badge; otherwise the green sticker applies
- Historic vehicles with an H-plate and emergency vehicles: exempt
Sticker & Registration
You need the green Feinstaubplakette. The city lists where to get one: the vehicle registration offices, the Bürgercentrum, the district offices, TÜV, DEKRA and any garage licensed to carry out exhaust inspections. Expect to pay in the region of EUR 5-15; foreign-registered cars can order one online before travelling.
Enforcement
Police spot checks and cameras, with the restriction in force permanently — the city states in terms that it applies “unabhängig davon, ob die aktuelle Luftbelastung hoch oder niedrig ist”.
Fine for Non-Compliance
Driving in the Umweltzone without the required green sticker results in a fine of EUR 100.
Recent changes to this page
- Electric-car rule brought up to date: from 1 October 2026 a car with a German E-plate, or the blue E badge that foreign-registered EVs can get, needs no green sticker (35. BImSchV Annex 3 no. 11, added by BGBl. 2026 I Nr. 278). An electric car without that marking still needs the sticker.
- Checked against the city's own air-quality page and the Umweltbundesamt zone register, which both date the zone to 1 January 2009 — the facts table had said 2008, and our twin page said 2010. The petrol minimum has been corrected from Euro 4 to a regulated catalytic converter (Euro 1 and newer), which is what the green sticker actually requires and what this page's own FAQ already said. The claim that roads crossing the city are exempt has been removed: neither source states it. Added where the city says the sticker can be bought.
- Title, description and introduction rewritten from this page's own data (no shared template wording).
- Aligned the dates on this page with TyreMap zone data after it was re-verified against the official register.
- Re-verified fine (EUR 100) and requirements against Germany authority portal.
- Confirmed Green Umweltplakette remains mandatory; 2026 ruleset unchanged.
- Updated enforcement procedure notes after seasonal review cycle.

The city lists the vehicle registration offices, the Bürgercentrum, the local district offices, TÜV, DEKRA and any garage licensed to carry out exhaust inspections. You do not have to order it online in advance if you are already in the city.
Permanently. The city states that the traffic restrictions apply continuously, regardless of whether current air pollution is high or low — there is no smog-alert trigger and no night-time gap.
From 1 October 2026 a car with an E-plate or the blue E badge needs no sticker; other battery-electric and fuel-cell cars still qualify for green and must show it. H-plate historic vehicles and emergency vehicles have their own exemption.
