Odense is one of the five Danish cities — with København, Frederiksberg, Aarhus and Aalborg — running a miljøzone. The zone dates back to 2011, when it covered only heavy diesel traffic, but the rule that matters to a visitor arrived later: after a change of law in the Folketing on 22 March 2022, the municipalities were allowed to pull diesel passenger cars in, and from 1 October 2023 a diesel car without a particulate filter can no longer legally be used in the zone (miljoezoner.dk).

Sticker & Registration
There is no sticker. A foreign-registered diesel has to be registered online at miljoezoner.dk only if it predates the cut-off for its class — a car or minibus first registered before 1 January 2011, a van before 1 September 2016, a lorry or bus before 1 January 2015. You register by the day you drive in, you may use the zone the moment registration is done, and it stays valid for five years. Newer vehicles, petrol vehicles and hybrids need nothing.
