Nijmegen announced a milieuzone for passenger cars but never brought it into force — of the Dutch cities that restrict diesel cars, only Amsterdam, Arnhem, Den Haag and Utrecht do. For a car, nothing is checked at Nijmegen’s boundary: no registration, no Euro-standard minimum, no fine. Nijmegen Emission Zone
Nijmegen does not have a milieuzone in force for passenger cars. The national portal milieuzones.nl lists only four cities with a milieuzone for diesel cars and vans, and Nijmegen is not among them. It does appear on that portal twice over for other vehicle classes: as one of the three cities with a milieuzone for brom- en snorfietsen, in force since 1 January 2025, and as one of the municipalities running a zero-emission zone for business vans and lorries from the same date.
Who Can Enter?
Every passenger car — petrol, diesel, electric and hybrid — with no Euro-standard requirement and no restriction. Mopeds and light scooters must meet the moped milieuzone rules, and business vans and lorries meet the zero-emission zone: Euro 5 vans keep transitional access until 1 Jan 2027 and Euro 6 vans until 1 Jan 2028, while most Euro VI lorries run to 1 Jan 2030.

None required for a car — no sticker and no registration. Van and lorry operators apply for zero-emission-zone exemptions through the national loket.
Enforcement
Nothing is enforced against a passenger car, because no car zone exists. The city’s cameras and patrols enforce the moped milieuzone and the zero-emission zone instead.
Fine for Non-Compliance
There is no fine for a car — with no car zone in force, there is nothing to be fined for. A van, bus or lorry breaching the zero-emission zone meets the national tariff: milieuzones.nl gives “€130,-” for vans and buses and “€320,-” for lorries, both since 26 November 2025.
