What the Grand Nancy ZFE Actually Restricts
The Métropole set its zone up in stages, and stage one is a freight measure. Grand Nancy’s own page names the vehicles caught since 1 January 2025 as poids lourds (PL), bus/cars et véhicules utilitaires légers (VUL) étant classés Crit’Air 5 ou Non Classés. Stage two is the one that will matter to visitors: au 1er janvier 2028, cette interdiction sera étendue aux véhicules légers (voitures et 2/3/4 roues motorisés) classés Crit’Air 5 ou Non Classés.
So in 2026 the practical position for someone driving to Nancy is unusually simple. Your car gets in. A 2003 diesel gets in. What does not get in is a Crit’Air 5 van or an old lorry — which is why hauliers and tradespeople, not tourists, were the target of the first phase.
The Sticker Is a Separate Obligation
Do not read “no class is banned” as “no paperwork”. Grand Nancy states that la vignette Crit’Air doit être collée sur le pare-brise et est obligatoire pour tout véhicule motorisé circulating in the ZFE-m. The vignette costs EUR 5.11 including postage from the government portal, it is tied to the vehicle for life, and foreign-registered vehicles can order one. An unstickered windscreen is the only realistic way a private car attracts a penalty in Nancy this year.
Exemptions
The Métropole lists derogations for vehicles adapted for disabled people, public transport services, refuse and collection vehicles, transport of perishable goods, and journeys for medical reasons.
