Who can enter
Access is by authorisation, not by Euro class. Permits go to residents, property owners and businesses inside the zone and to disabled badge holders, through the comune’s ZTL portal; taxis, hire cars with driver and public-service vehicles on duty are also admitted. Occasional access requests must be reported through the portal within 24 hours of entering.
Fines
Entering without authorisation is fined EUR 83-332 under art. 7 c.14 of the Codice della Strada. Since 14 December 2024, several camera-detected entries into the same zone on the same calendar day count as one violation (art. 198 c.2-bis). A hire company passes the fine on to the renter.
Tips for visitors
- The 24-hour gates (Via Betti, Via Staffetti, Via Bocchetta) catch you at any time, including weekday mornings.
- Before 17:00 on Monday to Saturday the other five gates are off, but on public holidays they run all day.
- Park outside the zone and walk into the centre below the Malaspina castle.
