Katowice’s Strefa Czystego Transportu has been operating since 29 June 2026 in part of the śródmieście, around the Rynek. If your car is registered anywhere other than Katowice, the test until the end of 2033 is petrol Euro 3 or built 2000 or later, diesel Euro 5 or built 2009 or later; from 1 January 2034 that rises to Euro 4 petrol and Euro 6 diesel. There is nothing to buy, display or apply for — the city charges no entry fee and issues no permits — but an unqualified car that drives in faces a fine of up to 500 zł.

Katowice SCT — What Applies From Outside the City
The city’s own information page sets out two different tests, and which one you meet depends on where the car is registered. For a visitor’s car the requirement from 29 June 2026 to 31 December 2033 is a petrol engine meeting Euro 3 or built no earlier than 2000, or a diesel meeting Euro 5 or built no earlier than 2009. From 1 January 2034 the bar rises to Euro 4 petrol and Euro 6 diesel.
Residents of Katowice face a gentler schedule — Euro 3 petrol and Euro 4 diesel until 30 June 2029, Euro 5 diesel from 1 July 2029 — and cars already in the hands of Katowice and Metropolis residents before the zone came into being are exempt without limit, provided they hold a valid technical inspection.
Where the Zone Is
A slice of the city centre taking in the Rynek and the streets around it, including parts of 3 Maja and Warszawska plus Dyrekcyjna, Staromiejska, Mariacka, Mielęckiego, Szkolna, Bankowa, Teatralna, Młyńska and Pocztowa. The streets forming the outer boundary — ks. Piotra Skargi, Moniuszki, Pańki, Dudy-Gracza, Warszawska, Francuska, Mariacka Tylna, Dworcowa and Słowackiego — mark the edge and are not themselves inside it.
Nothing to Buy
Katowice is explicit on this point: “Korzystanie ze Strefy Czystego Transportu nie będzie wiązało się z koniecznością uzyskiwania jakichkolwiek zezwoleń ani umieszczania na pojeździe specjalnych naklejek. W Katowicach nie planuje się również wprowadzania opłat za wjazd do Strefy.” No permit, no windscreen badge, no entry charge. Unlike Kraków, there is also no paid route in for a car that misses the standard.
Exemptions
Motorcycles, special-purpose vehicles, public transport buses, historic vehicles and vehicles taking part in authorised road events stay outside the restriction.
Fine for Non-Compliance
Driving a non-qualifying vehicle into the zone is an offence under art. 96c of the Kodeks wykroczeń, punishable by a fine of up to 500 zł, issued by the municipal guard or the police.

- The restriction is small and central: parking outside the boundary streets and walking in solves it entirely
