Dutch cities stack their rules rather than replace them, which is why Delft’s map carries one boundary for lorries and a different one for the old centre.
The milieuzone
Set south-east of the binnenstad, it covers lorries with a total weight above 3,500 kg. They qualify if the diesel engine is emission class Euro 6 or higher, or if the vehicle runs on something other than diesel. A lorry that does not qualify can buy a day exemption for EUR 30.30, or apply for a long-term exemption at EUR 144.70 — the latter aimed at operators who have ordered a compliant vehicle but are waiting for delivery, or who can show that the purchase would put the business at risk.
The zero-emission zone
The binnenstad has been a zero-emission zone for vans and lorries since 1 January 2025. It applies across categories N1, N2 and N3, including a van driven privately. Cameras at the edge of the zone read plates and check them against the access rules, and a vehicle that fails is fined. Vehicles 40 years old and over, and most wheelchair-accessible vehicles, are exempted automatically; anything else needs an RDW exemption, which takes about eight weeks to process.
If you are driving a car
Nothing to arrange. There is no Dutch windscreen sticker at all, and Delft applies no emission class to passenger cars — the four cities that do are Amsterdam, Arnhem, Den Haag and Utrecht. Park at a P+R site or on the edge of the centre and walk or cycle in; the old town is compact enough that a car is the slow option.
