Cerveteri ZTL — Zona a Traffico Limitato
Cerveteri’s restricted areas cover the Etruscan town’s core and the hill village of Ceri. What opens the gate is a registered plate, not an emission standard: the comune’s own service description turns on residence, domicile or property ownership inside the zone, and says nothing at all about Euro class.

Each is defined by its own ordinance, and hours are published with the ordinance rather than being uniform across the town. Evening and overnight closures are the pattern in the centro storico, and the summer arrangement differs from the winter one, so read the sign at the varco you are approaching.
Getting a permit
Apply in person at the Comando di Polizia Locale, Via Friuli 7, open Monday to Saturday 09:00-12:00 and also Tuesday and Thursday 15:00-17:00. Bring the completed request form, ID, and the carta di circolazione for each vehicle. The permit is issued immediately — a tagliando carrying a registration number and your plate, which is also loaded into the camera system where one covers that zone. It does not expire, unless the grounds for it do: a tenancy ending or a change of residence cancels it.
Disabled badge holders
Displaying the badge on the windscreen is normally enough. The exception is the centro storico gate between via Roma and piazza Aldo Moro: to pass there, the badge holder must email the Comando in advance with the vehicle details and the badge details. That one step is easy to miss and the camera does not forgive it.
The fine
Cerveteri publishes no municipal amount. Unauthorised entry falls under the statutory sanction in article 7, comma 14 of the Codice della Strada: EUR 83 to EUR 332 (Normattiva), paid at the lower end if settled quickly.
Tips for visitors
- Park outside the perimeter and walk — the centro storico and the necropolis are both compact
- If your accommodation is inside a zone, ask them to register the plate before you arrive
- Heading up to Ceri? It is a separate ZTL, not an extension of the Cerveteri one
- A disabled badge from another comune still works, but the centro storico gate needs the advance email either way
