Alghero ZTL — Zona a Traffico Limitato
The zone is the old walled town: Porta Mare, the Dogana and Garibaldi quays, Largo Conte Giuseppe Alberto Larco, stretches of via Sassari and via XX Settembre, Piazza Sulis on the side facing the walls, and the sea bastions — Cristoforo Colombo, Marco Polo, Pigafetta and Magellano. Who Can Enter?

- White-list vehicles, which need no badge but must be notified in writing so the plate is registered — the list includes exclusively electric vehicles, funeral vehicles, recovery and tow trucks, utility and postal service vehicles and public-administration cars

Deliveries
Goods vehicles under 2.5 tonnes need no authorisation, but loading and unloading is confined to working days, 08:00–10:30 and 14:30–16:30. Entry is allowed up to 10:30 and 16:30 respectively, with circulation permitted until 11:00 and 17:00.
Disabled Badge Holders
Up to two registration numbers can be linked to a badge. A holder who is not resident in Alghero and has not registered may still enter in an emergency without penalty, provided the justification — plate, date and time of the transit, and a copy of the badge — reaches the Polizia Locale within 72 hours, by email or certified mail. That submission suspends the penalty procedure.
Fines
The comune publishes no local amount; the regulation says only that an unauthorised entry “sarà sanzionato a termine di legge” under the Codice della Strada. Because the gates work remotely, there is no immediate challenge at the roadside: the notice arrives later, at the address of the registered keeper or the hire company.
Tips for Visitors
- Aim for a window. If you are collecting luggage from a hotel inside the walls, 08:00–10:30 or 14:30–16:30 is the time to do it.
- Do not treat an electric car as exempt — notify the plate first, or it is recorded like any other.
- Check the weight of a camper or hire van: anything over 2.5 tonnes is out regardless of the hour.
