Agen 2026: No ZFE Here, and Nothing to Buy Beforehand
Zone à Faibles Emissions · France · Announced but never introduced
Source: official source · Verified: 2026-09-27
Agen has no ZFE. The national register of French low-emission zones lists 43 territories and Agen is not one, so no Crit'Air vignette, Euro threshold or zone fine applies in the town.
Agen is a phantom on emission-zone lists. The town appears in plenty of third-party ZFE tables, but the official national register that every French metropole feeds simply has no Agen entry — and neither the agglomeration nor the town publishes a perimeter, a Crit'Air threshold or a penalty.
Didn’t France abolish its low-emission zones?
No — the repeal never took effect. Parliament did vote in April 2026 to abolish France’s ZFEs, which is why so many guides and news reports say they are gone. The Conseil constitutionnel struck that article down on 21 May 2026 (décision n° 2026-903 DC), so the ZFE provisions of the code général des collectivités territoriales (articles L. 2213-4-1 and L. 2213-4-2) stayed on the books.
One caveat most coverage misses: the article was annulled on procedure, not on its merits — the Council held it was a “cavalier législatif”, an amendment with no link to the bill it was attached to (Constitution, art. 45). Parliament can pass the same repeal again in a properly related bill, so this is settled for now rather than settled for good. Read the decision.

There is no low-emission zone in Agen. The official identifier list behind France’s consolidated ZFE database names 43 territories — Amiens, Angers, Annecy, Bordeaux, Toulouse and the rest — and Agen appears nowhere on it (transport.data.gouv.fr). Search the Agglomération d’Agen’s own site for “ZFE” and it returns 0 résultat. No Crit’Air threshold, no weekday hours, no zone fine.

Why Agen turns up on emission-zone lists
France’s ZFE obligation was written for the big agglomerations, and the national database reflects exactly that: 43 entries, from Paris and Lyon down to Saint-Nazaire and Valenciennes. Agen, a prefecture of the Lot-et-Garonne on the Garonne between Bordeaux and Toulouse, is not part of that group. Third-party tables that generate a page per French town of a certain size tend to invent the rest — a Crit’Air threshold here, a set of office hours there.
Who can drive into Agen?
Every vehicle, at every hour, whatever its Crit’Air class or registration year. There is no perimeter to cross.
If your route continues
Bordeaux Métropole restricts unclassified vehicles inside its perimeter and Toulouse Métropole applies a Crit’Air threshold; both are on the national register with dated steps. A Crit’Air vignette costs EUR 5.11 at certificat-air.gouv.fr and takes roughly three weeks to reach a foreign address, so order it before you leave rather than on the road.
What still applies in Agen
Ordinary French traffic law: the 80 km/h default on two-way roads without a central divider, priority signage in the old centre, and paid parking around Place Armand-Fallières. None of it depends on your engine.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. The national register of French low-emission zones, maintained by the Point d'Accès National aux données de transport, lists 43 territories and Agen is not one of them. The Agglomération d'Agen's own site returns no result for "ZFE".
No. With no zone in force there is nothing for the sticker to prove in Agen. You do need one for Bordeaux or Toulouse, both roughly two hours away, so buy it for those legs of the trip rather than for Agen.
Bordeaux Métropole has restricted unclassified vehicles since 1 January 2025, and Toulouse Métropole runs a stricter scheme. Both appear on the national register with mapped perimeters; Agen does not.
The French obligation was built around the largest agglomerations, and Agen sits well below that scale. Nothing is scheduled on the national register for the town, whose entries carry start and end dates for each step.
