Above the Piazza Ducale rises the great Sforza-Visconti castle, one of the largest in Europe, a vast complex that was a favourite residence of the Sforza dukes of Milan, with a covered raised walkway (the strada coperta), stables, a tall tower and rooms now housing museums, including a shoe museum reflecting the town's craft heritage. You reach it on foot from the square, and it's the other great sight of Vigevano, along with the Renaissance piazza.
Use a car park outside the ZTL, then walk into the centre. There are lots around the edge of the historic core. The compact centre, the Piazza Ducale and the castle are walkable. Parking outside the restricted zone and walking is the simplest approach. Vigevano is southwest of Milan in the Lomellina rice country, easily reached by car or train.
