Trucks Only: Uppsala's Miljözon Rules for Cars in 2026

Uppsala’s miljözon restricts only heavy trucks and buses over 3.5 tonnes rolling into the centre, so an ordinary passenger car pays no zone fine here at all. Sweden’s first university, founded in 1477, still anchors the compact old town beneath the largest cathedral in the Nordic countries. Park in a garage and walk or cycle, and drive out to the royal burial mounds of Gamla Uppsala.

Park, walk or cycle the centre

The miljözon is klass 1, which reaches only lorries and buses over 3.5 tonnes; no Euro class, sticker or fine applies to a car. Park in a central car park and walk to the cathedral, the university and the river Fyris. Swedish rules apply as everywhere: 0.2 per mille alcohol limit, 50 km/h in built-up areas unless signed, and winter tyres from 1 December to 31 March whenever the road is wintry.

When the car helps

Keep it for Gamla Uppsala and the Uppland countryside. For Stockholm or Arlanda airport, the train is the easier choice.
