Is There an Environmental Zone in Tübingen?
No. The Umweltbundesamt’s federal register lists Tübingen’s zone, in force from 1 March 2008, as lifted on 4 June 2024. Reutlingen next door was lifted the same day.
Park by the river, walk up
The steep, half-timbered old town is largely pedestrian — park in a garage by the Neckar and walk up to the market square and the castle, with the Stocherkahn punts drifting below. A sticker matters again only if you head into Stuttgart, whose Umweltzone is still active. Germany’s limits: 50 km/h in town, 0.5‰ alcohol, and zero for drivers under 21 or still in their probationary period.
When the car helps
Keep it for the Swabian Alb — caves and castles — and the road toward the Black Forest. Stuttgart is easier by train.
