Trani's historic-centre ZTL runs 11:00 to 08:00 daily, so the only open window is 08:00-11:00, for everyone. The port-side streets never open. Fine EUR 83-332, counted once per zone per day.

Park outside, walk to the seaside cathedral
Park outside the ZTL and walk the old town to the waterfront cathedral, the Swabian castle, the harbour and the old Jewish quarter (Giudecca). Since 14 December 2024, repeat entries into the same zone on one day count as a single violation. Italy’s limits: 50 km/h urban, 0.05% alcohol, zero for drivers under 21 and in their first three years.
When the car helps
Keep it for the Puglian coast and interior: Bari, the coastal towns, the octagonal Castel del Monte and the trulli country, driven from a car park outside the ZTL.

There are two timetables. Eight historic-centre streets, including via Zanardelli, via Bellini, via Rossini and via Santa Maria, are restricted from 11:00 to 08:00 the next morning, every day, leaving 08:00-11:00 open to all traffic. The port-side streets around piazza Sacra Regia Udienza, via Porta Vassalla, via Dogali and via San Nicola are restricted 00:00-24:00. Entering without a permit costs EUR 83-332 under article 7 comma 14, plus notification fees.
The cathedral of San Nicola Pellegrino is one of the finest Apulian-Romanesque churches, built in pale local stone at the edge of the sea with a tall bell tower and a crypt. Seen from the harbour at sunset it is the defining view of Trani, reached on foot from the old town.
The Swabian castle built under Frederick II stands by the sea near the cathedral. There is an old harbour lined with restaurants and fishing boats, and a former Jewish quarter, the Giudecca, whose medieval synagogues were later turned into churches. The Moscato di Trani is the local sweet wine.
Outside the ZTL, near the edge of the old town or the harbour, then walk in. The port-side streets are closed around the clock, so do not follow a sat-nav to the waterfront.
Not for the compact old town, and Trani is on the coastal railway near Bari. A car helps for Bari, the other coastal towns such as Molfetta and Bisceglie, the octagonal Castel del Monte inland, and the trulli country.
