Park outside, walk the borgo
Leave the car in a car park by the beach, the station or the port and walk in to the castle, the cathedral and the lanes of the old town. If your hotel is inside the zone, ask it to register your plate before you arrive; hotel guests are one of the permit categories. Italy’s defaults are 50 km/h in town and 0.5 g/l blood alcohol, with zero for drivers under 21 and in their first three years of holding a licence.
The islands and the region
Ferries and hydrofoils for the Tremiti Islands leave from Termoli’s port, so the car stays on the mainland. Keep it for the Molise coast and the green interior of this little-visited region.
