Tarragona's ZBE runs working days 07:00-19:00 and stops only vehicles with no DGT label. Foreign plates the DGT cannot identify are authorised up to 12 days a year; the fine is EUR 200.
Tarragona’s Zona de Baixes Emissions sorts cars by DGT label, not by a list of Euro numbers. Anything with a 0, ECO, C or B label drives in; only unlabelled vehicles are stopped, which for cars means petrol older than Euro 3 and diesel older than Euro 4. The zone applies on working days, 07:00-19:00, and has done since 31 December 2025. The rule that matters for visitors: a foreign plate the DGT cannot identify is authorised automatically for up to 12 days a year. Beyond that, the fine is EUR 200, up to 30% more for a repeat.

Park, walk the Roman city
Driving to an off-street public car park inside the zone is authorised, so a central garage is the simple choice. From there, walk to the amphitheatre above the sea, the circus, the forum, the walls and the cathedral, with the Balcó del Mediterrani over the water. Spain’s rules: 50 km/h on urban roads with two lanes per direction, 30 km/h on single-lane urban streets, and 0.5 g/l alcohol (0.3 for novices).
When the car helps
Keep it for the Costa Daurada beaches and the Priorat and Penedès wine country. Barcelona is about an hour by train.
