Quimper has no ZFE. In Brittany only Rennes and Brest were obliged to create one, and the state register of French zones leaves Quimper out, so no Crit'Air vignette is checked here.
Quimper was never on the list of French cities obliged to create a low-emission zone. In Brittany that duty fell on Rennes and Brest alone, and the state register of French ZFEs has no entry for Quimper, so drivers heading to the capital of Cornouaille need no Crit’Air vignette and face no emission fine. The city’s name comes from the Breton for “confluence”, and the place to leave the car is near where the Odet and Steïr meet, a short walk from the cathedral and the faience workshops of Locmaria.

Winter tyres in France — 2026–27 season
Winter tyres are required in France whenever conditions are wintry — 1 Nov - 31 Mar (mountain law, designated departments).
- Tread minimum: 1.6 mm — France sets no separate winter figure.
- Accepted marking: 3PMSF on all four tyres, or snow chains / snow socks carried for two drive wheels; M+S alone no longer accepted (34 departments, signed communes only)
- Studded tyres: restricted
- Penalty: No sanction in force as of 17 Feb 2026 (penalty decree not yet published). Ignoring a B26 chain sign: 2nd-class fine, up to EUR 150. The obligation is enforceable only where B58/B59 signs are installed.
In French the rule is pneus hiver, and snow chains are chaînes à neige — that is the wording on signs, in hire-car paperwork and on any penalty notice.

No. Quimper does not run a Zone à Faibles Émissions. Brittany's environment directorate names only Rennes Métropole and Brest Métropole as the region's obliged agglomerations, and the ministry's register of French ZFEs does not include Quimper. Order a vignette only if your route continues to a city that does run a zone, such as Brest.
Quimper is the cultural heart of Cornouaille: the twin-spired Cathédrale Saint-Corentin, a half-timbered old town along the Odet and Steïr rivers crossed by small footbridges, the summer Festival de Cornouaille, and hand-painted faience made in the city since the late 17th century.
Tin-glazed earthenware painted by hand, traditionally with naive figures of Bretons in local dress, flowers and motifs. The historic workshops are in the Locmaria district, a short walk along the Odet from the cathedral, where you can see pieces being made and painted.
Use a car park near the centre and walk. The old town around the cathedral and the riverside lanes is compact, and Locmaria is a short walk along the river.
Not for the old town, and Quimper is on the rail line from Paris. A car is useful for Cornouaille: the Pointe du Raz, the resort of Bénodet, the walled town of Concarneau and the coast villages.
