Pescara is not one ZTL but five, plus two pedestrian areas, all set by Ordinanza Sindacale n. 323 of 25 June 2015. Each has its own hours: ZTL 1 and ZTL 5 run around the clock, ZTL 4 from 04:00 to 20:00, and ZTL 3 only on Sundays and holidays from 16:00 to 20:00. Cameras guard only ZTL 1 and the central pedestrian area, and they stand down 06:00-09:00, 13:00-16:00 and 21:00-22:00 for loading, with a 30-minute maximum. Entry depends on a permit, not Euro class, and an unauthorised pass costs EUR 83-332.

If you enter by mistake
An urgent, unplanned entry can be regularised within 48 hours by sending proof of the reason to the ZTL office of the Polizia Municipale. Since 14 December 2024, repeat entries into the same zone on one day count as a single violation. Italy’s limits: 50 km/h urban, 0.5 g/l alcohol, zero for drivers under 21 and in their first three years.
Park outside, walk the seafront
Leave the car outside the ZTLs and walk the beachfront and the Ponte del Mare, a 466-metre cycle and pedestrian bridge opened in 2009. In the old town, Gabriele d’Annunzio was born on 12 March 1863 in the house on Corso Manthonè that is now a state museum.
The car’s bonus: the mountains
Pescara is the gateway to the Gran Sasso and Majella mountains, driven out from a car park outside the ZTLs.
