Can your car enter Palma de Mallorca?
Palma’s Zona de Bajas Emisiones has been enforced since 1 July 2025, runs 24 hours a day with no weekday window to plan around, and fines EUR 200 for a non-compliant entry, reduced to EUR 100 if paid promptly. In this first phase, which lasts until December 2026, DGT labels B, C, ECO and 0 may all enter and so may every motorcycle; only unlabelled vehicles are shut out. From 1 January 2027 only C, ECO and CERO qualify, and from 2030 only ECO and 0.
Your case: A foreign plate carries no DGT label, and the cameras cannot classify it on their own. The council’s answer is a register: before driving into the zone, a foreign-registered car is entered through the application on mobipalma.mobi, with passport, licence and vehicle documents. Do it before you book a hotel inside the ring, and check again for any trip running into 2027.

Park, walk the old town
Park in an underground garage near the centre or seafront and explore the lanes below the cathedral on foot. Spain’s general limits: 50 km/h in town and 0.05% blood alcohol.
The car’s real job: the island
Most visitors hire a car at the airport for Mallorca itself: the coves, the mountain villages and the Serra de Tramuntana road. Leave it in a Palma garage while in the city, drive the mountain roads slowly and reach popular coves early in summer.

For the island, usually yes: the coves (calas), mountain villages and the Serra de Tramuntana road are hard to reach by bus. For Palma itself, no: the city is walkable and has buses and a metro.
