Can your car enter Palma de Mallorca?
Most people who drive into Palma do it in a hire car on Spanish plates, and for them the low emission zone is close to invisible: the car already has a DGT environmental label, cameras check it against the DGT, and until the end of 2026 only cars with no label at all are kept out. On 1 January 2027 the second phase starts and the B label stops qualifying, leaving only C, ECO and 0 free to enter — a Spanish hire car with a B label (Euro 3 petrol cars of 2001-2005, Euro 4 and 5 diesels) is then shut out too. The drivers who need to plan are those who bring their own car on the ferry. A foreign-registered car has no DGT label, so the council wants it in its register five days before it first enters the centre.

Bringing your own car: the 5-day register
The ZBE took effect on 22 December 2024 and covers the centre inside the avenues and the seafront. For a foreign car the council sets two conditions. The car must match a labelled Spanish equivalent: petrol Euro 3 or newer, diesel Euro 4 or newer, or an electric, hybrid or gas car. And the owner must file the online form on mobipalma.mobi at least 5 calendar days before the planned entry, with a passport or licence, the technical sheet, the registration certificate and proof of ownership (a lease contract for a leased car). The authorisation lasts 30 days from the entry date. That Euro 3 / Euro 4 level is the B-label equivalent, which is the tier that loses access on 1 January 2027, so for a trip after that date check the council’s foreign-car page for the level it then asks for. Driving in without it breaches the ZBE ordinance, a serious offence with a EUR 200 fine.
Parking and walking the old town
The council names public car parks inside the zone, among them Vía Roma, Plaza Mayor, Parc de la Mar, Comtat de Rosselló and Sa Gerreria, that can be reached without an authorisation along its published access routes. From there the old town is on foot: La Seu, whose interior Antoni Gaudí reworked in the early 20th century, the Almudaina palace and the Arab baths. Spain’s urban default is 50 km/h on streets with two or more lanes each way and 30 km/h where there is one lane each way. The alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l in the blood, 0.3 g/l for drivers in their first two years.
When the car helps
Keep it for the rest of Mallorca: the Serra de Tramuntana and its villages (Valldemossa, Deià), the coves and the wine country inland.

La Seu is the great Gothic cathedral on Palma's seafront, built in golden sandstone above the Parc de la Mar. Antoni Gaudí reworked parts of the interior in the early 20th century, and the artist Miquel Barceló later remade the Sant Pere chapel in ceramic. The Almudaina palace stands beside it.

From any of them the old town, the cathedral and the Arab baths are a short walk.
Not for the city itself, which is compact and served by buses. A car is useful for the rest of Mallorca: the Serra de Tramuntana and villages such as Valldemossa and Deià, the coves on the coast and the inland wine country.
