Oviedo's ZBE bars only cars with no DGT label (petrol before 2000, diesel before 2006) from the inner ring, every day, since 1 January 2026. Fine: EUR 200, halved if paid within 20 days.
Oviedo picked the lightest possible version of Spain’s mandatory low-emission zone. Since 1 January 2026 its inner ring has been closed, every day and at every hour, to one group only: vehicles with no DGT environmental label, which means petrol cars first registered before 2000 and diesels before 2006. Everything newer drives in as before, and the outer ring follows the same rule from 1 January 2028. A car caught in the barred group faces EUR 200, cut to EUR 100 if paid within 20 days.

Who is affected
The test is age and fuel, not a sticker you buy: a petrol car from 2000 on or a diesel from 2006 on is outside the ban. Residents, access to public car parks, emergency services and transport for people with reduced mobility are exceptions even for barred vehicles.
Park, stroll the old town
Park in an underground garage near the centre and walk the old town around the cathedral and the sidrerías. The UNESCO-listed Santa María del Naranco is a short drive up Mount Naranco. Spain’s general limits: 50 km/h in town and 0.05% blood alcohol.
When the car helps
Keep it for Asturias: the Picos de Europa, the coast and the cider villages, driven from a central garage.

Asturias is Spain's cider country, and Oviedo has streets of sidrerías where natural cider is poured from height (escanciada) to aerate it. It goes with hearty dishes such as fabada, the local bean stew, and all of it is in the walkable centre.
