Ourense's ZBE has fined unlabelled cars since 1 July 2026; B, C, ECO and Zero labels enter freely. A foreign car has no label, but an authorisation filed within five working days avoids the fine.
Can your car enter Ourense?
Ourense’s ZBE Centro is newer and narrower than its reputation. The Concello’s own page sets out the timeline: the zone began on 26 December 2025 with warnings only, and since 1 July 2026 vehicles with no DGT label that enter the listed streets without a right of access can be fined. Cars with B, C, ECO or Zero labels drive in freely.

Foreign plates
A foreign-registered car has no DGT label, so it counts as unlabelled. The council’s answer for anyone caught out is a late request: authorisation can be sought up to the fifth working day after a first entry (weekends and holidays not counted), and an entry covered by a timely request is not sanctioned. The zone is a block of central streets, among them Ramón Cabanillas, Bedoya, Avenida Buenos Aires, Lugo and rúa do Villar, so parking outside it and walking is usually easier. A second phase adds Xoán XXIII, Concello and Curros Enríquez from 1 January 2029.
Speeds in town
Spain’s urban limits follow the street: 20 km/h on single-platform streets, 30 km/h with one lane each way and 50 km/h with two or more lanes each way. The alcohol limit is 0.05% for most drivers.
The springs on foot
The thermal water surfaces in the centre at As Burgas, where the Romans built baths; the springs have been a protected site of cultural interest since 2007. Along the river, the Paseo Termal do Miño follows about 5 km of bank past seven thermal facilities, starting at A Chavasqueira beyond the Ponte do Milenio.
When the car helps
Keep it for the Ribeira Sacra canyons and vineyards and the road to Santiago de Compostela.
