Mulhouse has no low-emission zone: the ZFE planned for 2025 was abandoned and is absent from the national list of 25 French zones. No Crit'Air sticker or ZFE fine applies.
Mulhouse came close to having a low-emission zone. It was announced for 1 January 2025, pushed back to 1 May 2025 and then abandoned before it ever switched on. The national list of French ZFEs does not include it, so you can drive into the Alsatian city without a Crit’Air sticker. Many guides still describe a live zone with a Euro threshold; it does not exist.

Is There a ZFE in Mulhouse?
No. No Crit’Air sticker is required and no ZFE fine applies. The planned zone was dropped before launch and Mulhouse is not on the government list of 25 French zones in force.
Arriving and parking
Park in a central car park and use the tram for the compact centre around the Place de la Réunion; the Cité de l’Automobile and the railway museum have their own car parks. France’s basics: 50 km/h in towns, 0.05% alcohol (0.02% on a probationary licence).

- Switzerland: Basel has no emission zone; a motorway vignette is required on Swiss motorways.
- Germany: Freiburg abolished its Umweltzone on 22 April 2025.
- France: Strasbourg, about 96 km north, runs a ZFE; get a Crit’Air sticker before going there.

Winter tyres in France — 2026–27 season
Winter tyres are required in France whenever conditions are wintry — 1 Nov - 31 Mar (mountain law, designated departments).
- Tread minimum: 1.6 mm — France sets no separate winter figure.
- Accepted marking: 3PMSF on all four tyres, or snow chains / snow socks carried for two drive wheels; M+S alone no longer accepted (34 departments, signed communes only)
- Studded tyres: restricted
- Penalty: No sanction in force as of 17 Feb 2026 (penalty decree not yet published). Ignoring a B26 chain sign: 2nd-class fine, up to EUR 150. The obligation is enforceable only where B58/B59 signs are installed.
In French the rule is pneus hiver, and snow chains are chaînes à neige — that is the wording on signs, in hire-car paperwork and on any penalty notice.

No. The ZFE was announced for 1 January 2025, postponed to 1 May 2025 and then set aside before it ever operated. The government register of French low-emission zones lists 25 zones in force and Mulhouse is not among them, so there is no sticker requirement and no ZFE fine.
Because the two launch announcements were widely reported and the cancellation was not. Without a published order creating the zone there is no perimeter, no Crit'Air threshold and nothing to fine.

Basel, across the Swiss border, has no low-emission zone, but Swiss motorways require a vignette. Freiburg in Germany abolished its Umweltzone on 22 April 2025. In France, Strasbourg, about 96 km north, runs a ZFE that still tolerates Crit'Air 3 until 31 December 2026.
