Molfetta's ZTL Fine Runs to EUR 160 by the Harbour in 2026

Molfetta's historic centre has a Zona a Traffico Limitato restricting unauthorised cars from its narrow lanes, with fines around EUR 83-160. Hotels inside can sometimes register your plate. For most visitors, parking outside the zone and walking is simplest — the compact old town on its peninsula, with the old cathedral and the harbour, is best explored on foot.

The Duomo Vecchio (Old Cathedral) of Molfetta, dedicated to San Corrado, is a distinctive 12th-13th-century Romanesque church standing right by the old harbour at the tip of the peninsula, unusual for its two tall domes in a row over the nave and its bell tower, an Apulian-Romanesque landmark visible from the sea. It's the town's signature monument, in the heart of the walkable old town, a lovely sight especially when lit at night above the fishing boats.

Use a car park outside the ZTL, near the edge of the old town or the harbour, then walk in. The compact old town (Borgo Antico) on its peninsula is largely pedestrian and a ZTL, so leaving the car outside and walking is the natural approach. The harbour, the old cathedral and the old streets are all within an easy walk once parked.

Molfetta sits on the central Adriatic coast of Puglia, close to the regional capital Bari with its old town and basilica, and within reach of the whitewashed coastal towns (like Trani with its famous seafront cathedral, and Monopoli), the trulli of Alberobello inland, and the Castel del Monte, the mysterious octagonal castle of Frederick II. A car is useful for these, parked outside the ZTL when in the town. Molfetta is also on the coastal railway.

Not for the compact old town, which is walkable, and Molfetta is on the coastal rail line. A car helps for exploring the central Puglian coast and interior — Trani, Bari, the Castel del Monte, the trulli country — driven from a car park outside the ZTL centre.
