The Comune di Massa lists Via Betti, Via Staffetti and Via Bocchetta as active 24 hours; the other five, including Via Cavour and Piazza Mercato, run 17:00-07:00 Monday to Saturday and all day on public holidays. Park outside, walk the centre or the beach
Permits go to residents, property owners and businesses inside the zone and to disabled badge holders, through the comune’s ZTL portal. Visitors should park outside and walk. Entering without authorisation costs EUR 83-332, and since 14 December 2024 repeated entries into the same zone on one day count as a single violation. Italy’s limits: 50 km/h urban, 0.05% alcohol, zero for drivers under 21 and in their first three years.
Mountains and sea in one day
Keep the car for the Carrara marble quarries and the Apuan Alps behind, and the Versilia beaches in front, driven from a car park outside the ZTL.

Massa sits on a narrow coastal plain between the marble peaks of the Apuan Alps, shared with neighbouring Carrara, and the sandy beaches of the Tuscan coast. The Malaspina castle crowns the old town, and the beach district of Marina di Massa lies a few kilometres away on the sea.
Outside the ZTL, depending on whether you are visiting the historic centre below the castle or the beach district of Marina di Massa, which are a few kilometres apart. Then walk. Most centre gates switch on at 17:00, so plan evening arrivals around them.
Carrara and its marble quarries are a short drive up into the Apuan Alps. Along the coast lie the Versilia beaches towards Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio, and Lucca and the Cinque Terre are within reach.
Not for the centre or the beach once parked, and Massa is on the coastal railway. A car is useful for combining the marble mountains with the coast, driven from a car park outside the ZTL.
