Leave the car, walk the old town
The medieval centre is small and full of cyclists, so park on its edge and walk. The cathedral, about 900 years old, is according to the Church of Sweden the country’s most visited church. Nearby, Kulturen, open since 1892, mixes a cultural history museum with an open-air collection of old buildings from southern Sweden. Winter tyres in Sweden — 2026–27 season
Winter tyres are compulsory on fixed dates in Sweden: 1 Dec - 31 Mar (when winter road conditions are present).
- Legal winter tread minimum: 3 mm (5 mm for vehicles over 3.5 t) — not the 1.6 mm figure most guides quote, which is the year-round minimum.
- Accepted marking: 3PMSF (alpine symbol) on non-studded winter tyres, or studded tyres; M+S alone not accepted on cars (M+S-only tolerated on trailers up to 3,500 kg until 30 Nov 2028)
- Studded tyres: restricted
- Penalty: SEK 2,000 (studded tyres out of season: SEK 500)
