The Pomeranzengarten in Leonberg is a rare and beautifully restored baroque terraced ornamental garden from the 1600s, laid out below the castle with geometric beds, box hedges and (historically) potted bitter-orange trees (Pomeranzen), one of the very few gardens of this Renaissance-baroque type to survive in Germany. It's a charming, tranquil spot and the town's distinctive attraction, in the walkable old town near the Schloss.
Leonberg has a pretty old town with a sloping half-timbered market square (one of the finest in the region), the hilltop castle (now used by the state), the historic church, and the baroque Pomeranzengarten. The town is also known historically as the home of the mother of the poet Friedrich Schiller. It's a pleasant small town within the Stuttgart conurbation, best explored on foot, with the big city's sights a short drive or train ride away.
