Can your car enter Kassel?

Timing the Bergpark
Hessen Kassel Heritage runs the water features every Wednesday, Sunday and public holiday from 1 May to 3 October, starting at 2:30 pm. More than 750,000 litres fall from the Hercules monument down the cascades without a single pump, and the course can only be followed on foot: about 2.3 km and almost 200 metres of descent. The park, about 240 hectares on a steep hillside, has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2013. On a water-feature afternoon, leave the car in town and take the tram toward Wilhelmshöhe.

documenta has filled the city at roughly five-year intervals, most recently in 2017 and 2022, and the organisers now present documenta 16. In an exhibition summer, hotels and central car parks book up early.
Park and ride
Park centrally or on the tram network and ride to the park and the museums. Germany’s national limits apply: 50 km/h in town, a 0.05% alcohol limit, and no alcohol at all for drivers under 21 or on probation.

Keep it for the countryside of northern Hesse and the Reinhardswald forest.
