Huelva’s Zona de Bajas Emisiones is far smaller than the citywide scheme once planned: the first phase covers roughly eight hectares of the Barrio Obrero around Reina Victoria, and the ordinance builds in a first year without fines. Outside that pocket, and inside it for now, no sticker check leads to a penalty. Park near the centre and walk to the port city from which Columbus’s voyage was prepared in 1492, or head out to the Doñana wetlands and the red landscapes of the Rio Tinto mines.

Park, walk the centre
Park in a garage near the centre and walk. The pilot zone is the residential Barrio Obrero, bounded by avenida Alcalde Federico Molina Orta, calle Roque Barcia and avenida Guatemala, so ordinary trips into the centre do not cross it. Spain’s limits: 50 km/h in town and 0.05% alcohol.
The car’s real job: Columbus, Doñana and the red river
Keep the car for the Columbus sites at La Rábida and Palos with the ship replicas, Doñana national park, the Rio Tinto mines and the Costa de la Luz beaches.
