Driving in Getafe 2026: Foreign Plates Free in the ZBE

Getafe’s Zona de Bajas Emisiones has applied since 27 January 2025, and the council’s own access rules settle the visitor question: cars on foreign plates are listed as unrestricted. Spanish-registered cars are judged by their DGT label instead, with C, ECO or 0 needed to drive in freely, and an unauthorised entry costs EUR 200, halved to EUR 100 if paid within 20 days. Getafe is an Airbus and university town on Madrid’s southern edge, so most visitors park and take the train into the capital.

Who may enter

• Foreign or diplomatic plates: no restriction on entry, circulation or parking.
• Spanish plates, not registered in Getafe: label C, ECO or 0 to drive in; label B only when heading to an affiliated public car park; no label needs a municipal authorisation.
• The perimeter streets themselves, including Calle Madrid and Calle Toledo, stay open to all traffic.

A hire car on Spanish plates is judged by its label, so check the windscreen sticker at pickup.

Park and ride

Leave the car in a garage and use the metro or Cercanías trains into central Madrid. Spain’s general rules apply: 50 km/h on urban streets with two or more lanes each way and 30 km/h on single-lane streets, and a 0.5 g/l blood-alcohol limit.

When the car helps

Keep it for the region beyond the rail lines: Aranjuez and Toledo to the south.
