One sticker for the whole conurbation
Essen is part of the Ruhr-wide Umweltzone, so the same Umweltplakette (EUR 5-15, permanent, and already on most German rental cars) that works in Dortmund or Bochum gets you in here too — without it the fine is EUR 100. The tram and S-Bahn network is dense enough to park once and ride everywhere. Germany-wide, town limits are 50 km/h and the blood-alcohol limit is 0.05%, zero for drivers under 21 or in their first two years.
Zollverein’s own parking, not a guess
Zollverein signs its own visitor parking rather than leaving it to chance: free car parks on the Zeche side (lots A1, A2 and B) and on the Kokerei side (lot C), plus the paid Parkdeck Zollverein at Im Welterbe 11 for EUR 1.80 an hour or a EUR 7.50 day ticket — card payment only, no cash.
