The U-Bahn and trains run directly to the stadium, so use public transport. If you're staying in the city, leave the car parked.
Use a central garage or a park-and-ride on the U-Bahn or S-Bahn and ride in. Dortmund and the wider Ruhr have a dense public-transport network. The compact centre is walkable, and the stadium and other attractions are reached by direct U-Bahn or train. Parking once and riding is the easy way around, and keeps you clear of the Umweltzone if you leave the car outside it.
Beyond football, Dortmund has reinvented its industrial heritage: the Zeche Zollern colliery with its art-nouveau machine hall, the Dortmunder U (a former brewery tower turned arts centre, a nod to the city's brewing fame), the Westfalenpark with its TV tower, and the German Football Museum. It's part of the Ruhr's Industrial Heritage Trail, with good rail links across the region.
