Cremona has two rules: a camera ZTL (seven gates 0-24, two on time bands) fined EUR 83-332, and a weekday 07:30-19:30 Lombardy ban on diesel Euro 0-4 and petrol Euro 0-1.
Locally the zone is called Zona a Traffico Limitato Cremona (Italy) — that is the wording on the boundary signs, on the official portal and on any penalty notice, so it is the phrase to search for once you are there.

Can your car enter Cremona?
Cremona runs two separate restrictions, and a visitor can trip either one. The historic-centre ZTL is camera-enforced: seven gates fine unauthorised cars around the clock, and two more, at Piazza Roma/Via San Filippo and Via Verdi/Piazza Stradivari, fine Monday to Friday 09:00-16:00 and all day on Saturdays and holidays. On top of that, Lombardy’s antismog rule bars diesel Euro 0-4 and petrol Euro 0-1 from the city on weekdays 07:30-19:30, all year. Park outside both and walk to the Torrazzo and the violin workshops.

Park outside, walk the music city
The ZTL fine is EUR 83-332, or EUR 58.10 if the minimum is paid within five days, and several passes through the same zone on one day count as one violation. Walk the compact centre around Piazza del Comune, the cathedral, the Torrazzo and the Museo del Violino. Italy’s limits: 50 km/h in town and 0.5 g/l alcohol, zero for drivers under 21 and in their first three years.
The antismog rule follows you out of the centre
Unlike the ZTL, the Lombardy ban covers the whole city on weekdays, so an older diesel is caught even on the ring road. Holidays are exempt, and Cremona is not among the four cities named for Lombardy’s Euro 5 diesel ban, now deferred to 1 October 2027. Keep the car for the Po plain and the food cities of Parma and Mantua.

The fine is EUR 83-332 under article 7 comma 14, reduced to EUR 58.10 if the minimum is paid within five days, and repeat passes through the same zone on one day count once.
Petrol, methane and LPG cars of Euro 0-1 and diesel cars of Euro 0-4 may not circulate in Cremona from Monday to Friday, 07:30-19:30, all year; holidays, including midweek ones, are exempt. The regional sanction is EUR 75-450. Cremona is outside Lombardy's Euro 5 diesel step for Milan, Brescia, Monza and Bergamo, which has been deferred from 1 October 2026 to 1 October 2027.
The Amati family shaped the violin here in the 16th century, and Antonio Stradivari and the Guarneri worked in the city in the 17th and 18th centuries. Traditional Cremonese violin-making is inscribed on UNESCO's intangible heritage list, and the Museo del Violino shows historic instruments.
The cathedral's bell tower on Piazza del Comune, a medieval brick tower with an astronomical clock. It can be climbed for views over the city and the Po plain.
Not for the compact centre, which is walkable and on the rail network. A car helps for the Po plain and for Parma and Mantua, driven out from a car park outside the ZTL.
