The 7.1-metre bronze Karl Marx head, nicknamed the Nischel and unveiled in 1971 when the city was Karl-Marx-Stadt, still anchors the compact, walkable centre.

Keep it for Saxony: the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge) mining landscape, the castles, and the road to Dresden or Leipzig. Leipzig, about 69 km away, does run an Umweltzone, so a green sticker is needed there.
