Bydgoszcz has never set up a clean transport zone. Polish law gives every council the power to create one, but the city has not used it, so a car of any age can drive to the riverside without registering anything. The centre is compact enough to walk once parked: the granaries along the Brda, Mill Island and the opera house sit within a few streets of each other.
