Can your car enter Ávila?
Ávila’s Zona de Bajas Emisiones works on a daily clock: from 07:00 to 20:00 a car needs a qualifying DGT environmental label, and from 20:00 to 07:00 any vehicle may drive in. Petrol cars qualify from Euro 3, diesels from Euro 4. Cameras have issued fines since 1 July 2025: EUR 200, cut to EUR 100 if paid promptly. The simplest plan is to leave the car outside the walls.

Park outside, walk the rampart
The walls are the reason to come. The city’s own wall site gives the circuit as 2,516 metres, with 87 towers and nine gates, and about 1,700 metres of the upper walkway are open to visitors through three access points, plus a fourth adapted for reduced mobility. The walls were declared a national monument in 1884 and inscribed as a World Heritage site, with the old town, in 1985. Foreign-registered cars carry no DGT label, so if you arrive by day, park outside the walls rather than testing the cameras. Spain’s limits: 50 km/h in towns (30 on single-lane streets), 0.05% alcohol.
When the car helps
Keep it for Segovia, the Sierra de Gredos and the Castilian plateau, driven from a car park outside the old town.
