Brussels 2026: Petrol Euro 4 Survives the 2028 Step
Two lines to clear, and this car clears both. The petrol floor is Euro 3 today and becomes Euro 4 on 1 January 2028, so a 2018 Euro 4 is admitted now and after the step. The separate test is administrative: plate registration at lez.brussels is free and valid five years, and a compliant foreign car that skips it is still fined EUR 150.

A car that does not need re-checking before 2030
Most Brussels verdicts have a shelf life, because the region publishes its tightening in advance and applies it on 1 January. The 2028 step refuses petrol Euro 3 and diesel Euro 6b, 6c and 6d-TEMP, lifting the petrol minimum to Euro 4. This car is at that level already, so the answer holds through the 2028 change rather than expiring with it — the agenda’s next line for this class is 2030, when petrol below Euro 6d is refused — a diesel driver reading the same page has no such margin.
Compliance and registration are different hurdles

The registration itself
Free, valid for five years, and doable before entering or within five days of entering. Vehicles registered in the Netherlands are read automatically and are exempt from the step; every other foreign plate has to be entered. It takes a few minutes online and is the single action this car needs.
