2010 Petrol Euro 4 Enters Milan Area B Free in 2026

Checked against official sources 1 Oct 2026 · Next review 2026-12-30

A 2010 petrol Euro 4 clears Milan Area B’s petrol floor of Euro 4 (Euro 0-3 petrol barred since 1 October 2025, per comune.milano.it), so entry only needs a free registration, not a paid sticker. The nearby Area C charge (EUR 7.50/day) is a separate scheme.

Can a petrol Euro 4 car enter Milan?

Yes. Area B’s petrol floor is Euro 4: the comune barred petrol Euro 0-3 on 1 October 2025, so a 2010 Euro 4 petrol car sits exactly on the line and is admitted (comune.milano.it). Nothing about the zone is stricter for foreign plates than for Italian ones.

There is no sticker and no fee for Area B. What it does expect from a foreign-registered car is a free plate registration on the comune’s Area B portal, so the cameras can match your plate to an emission class the Italian register does not hold. Skip it and a qualifying car can still be processed as non-compliant.

The zone you actually have to watch: Area C

Area B is the big emissions ring covering nearly the whole city. Inside it sits Area C, the congestion charge for the historic centre within the Cerchia dei Bastioni, and it bills EUR 7.50 a day from every car regardless of Euro class (comune.milano.it). Different cameras, different ticket, different rules — and it is where visitors celebrating their Area B compliance collect a fine.

Both zones run Monday to Friday, 07:30-19:30, public holidays excluded. Arrive at the weekend and neither applies.

What a violation costs

Driving into Area B or Area C without meeting the rules is a camera-issued offence under the Italian traffic code, in the region of EUR 80-335. Italy pursues foreign plates by post, and Milan notices commonly arrive months later with administrative add-ons; on a hire car the rental company charges the card it holds and adds its own fee.

If you would rather leave the car outside

  • Park & Ride. The M1, M2 and M3 interchanges — Lampugnano, Cascina Gobba, Famagosta — put you on the metro for a few euros a day. Milanese traffic usually makes this the faster option anyway.
  • Time the arrival. A Saturday or Sunday entry sidesteps both zones entirely.
  • Stay outside the Bastioni. A hotel in Area B but outside Area C keeps the car legal and free.

One diesel rule further out, now from 1 October 2027

Regione Lombardia’s ban on Euro 5 diesel cars in Milan, Brescia, Monza and Bergamo was set for 1 October 2026 and has been deferred to 1 October 2027 by regional decision 6846 of 28 September 2026. It is a diesel measure and never touched this petrol car.
