A 2010 Plate Doesn't Stop This Diesel Euro 6 in Paris, 2026

Checked against official sources 19 Sep 2026 · Next review 2026-12-18

Paris’s ZFE checks Euro class, not registration year, so an unusually early 2010 diesel Euro 6 clears the diesel floor of Euro 5 — the zone bans Crit’Air 3, 4, 5 and unclassified vehicles. It still needs a Crit’Air vignette (EUR 5.11), shown weekdays 08:00-20:00.

Can a diesel Euro 6 car enter Paris?

Yes, and the registration year here is a red herring. The ZFE checks Euro class from the Certificate of Conformity, not the year on the registration document, so an unusually early 2010 diesel actually certified to Euro 6 clears the zone’s diesel floor of Euro 5 (paris.fr, updated 30 December 2025, which bans Crit’Air 3, 4, 5 and unclassified). It registers as Crit’Air 2, the same band as any Euro 5 diesel.

What to arrange before driving in

  1. Get the Crit’Air vignette from certificat-air.gouv.fr (EUR 5.11) — the sticker is mandatory even for a car well above the cutoff.
  2. Keep proof of the Euro 6 certification on hand, since a 2010 build year alone would normally suggest an older, non-compliant class — you may need the CoC if questioned.
  3. Display the vignette only during the restricted window, weekdays 08:00-20:00 inside the A86; nothing checks for it outside those hours.

Why Crit’Air 2, not Crit’Air 1

  • French classification caps every diesel at Crit’Air 2, regardless of how new or clean it is — Crit’Air 1 is reserved for petrol Euro 5+ and gas vehicles, Crit’Air 0 for electric and hydrogen. A diesel’s fuel type, not its emissions performance, sets this ceiling.
  • That cap matters if Paris excludes Crit’Air 2 next. When that happens, this car and a much newer 2024 diesel would be excluded together, while an older Euro 5 petrol stays in.
  • The vignette works across France’s other ZFEs too — Lyon, Grenoble, Toulouse and Marseille all recognise the same sticker, though each sets its own banned classes and hours.

Quick compliance checklist for Paris

  • ✅ Confirm the Euro 6 certification on the CoC, since the 2010 build year alone looks borderline
  • ✅ Buy the Crit’Air vignette only from certificat-air.gouv.fr (EUR 5.11)
  • ✅ Remember restrictions apply weekdays 08:00-20:00 only
  • ✅ Track any announcement about a future Crit’Air 2 exclusion if this is a regular Paris car
