Prague 2026: No Emission Zone Exists for This Diesel
There is no low emission zone in Prague, and none anywhere else in Czechia: the environment ministry’s register records no declared zone in any municipality. A 2018 diesel Euro 4 enters with nothing to show, because Czech law provides no emission sticker at all.

Nothing to clear, because nothing has been declared
The question behind this page usually comes from a trip planner listing Prague alongside Berlin and Milan. The comparison does not hold. A Czech low emission zone exists only once a municipality declares one under the Air Protection Act, and the ministry’s register shows that none has. No threshold is in force, so a Euro 4 diesel is not measured against anything.
The lorry rule that gets mistaken for a zone
Prague does operate one emission-based restriction: certain areas are closed to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes that do not meet Euro 6. The ministry states in the same paragraph that this is not a low emission zone within the meaning of section 14 of the Air Protection Act. It applies to heavy goods vehicles, not to cars, and no Euro class of passenger car is affected by it.
Why there is no badge to buy
Czech law contains no physical emission sticker. If a zone were declared in future, compliance would be checked electronically, by number plate, through a ministry system that starts within 12 months of the first declaration. Anything sold today as a Prague or Czech emission badge corresponds to nothing.
What actually restricts a car in Prague
- The historic core is largely pedestrianised and tram-served; access is a matter of street rules, not emissions.
- Paid parking zones cover most of the inner districts, with resident priority.
- Neither depends on the Euro class of the vehicle.
Prague checklist for a Euro 4 diesel
- ✅ No zone, no threshold, no sticker — nothing to arrange before arrival
- ✅ Ignore third-party listings quoting Euro limits or start dates for Prague
- ✅ Check the over-3.5 t Euro 6 rule only if you are driving a lorry
- ✅ Plan parking instead: the inner districts are paid zones
- ✅ If a zone is ever declared, expect a plate-based electronic check, not a badge
