Barcelona ZBE 2026: Euro 4 Diesel Is In on Weekdays

Checked against official sources 19 Sep 2026 · Next review 2026-12-18

Barcelona’s ZBE Rondes admits diesel from Euro 4, so this car is in — and only on weekdays, 07:00-20:00, because nights, weekends and public holidays are unrestricted. A foreign plate cannot buy the DGT label; it must be on the AMB register instead.

A zone with an off switch

Most European emission zones run continuously. Barcelona’s does not: the restriction applies Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 20:00, and outside that window the whole area inside the ring roads is open. For a weekend visit the emission question never arises at all.

The area is the ring, not the old town

The ZBE Rondes is everything enclosed by the Ronda de Dalt and the Ronda Litoral — roughly 95 km², taking in Barcelona plus slices of L’Hospitalet, Cornellà, Esplugues, Sant Adrià and Sant Just. Arriving from the airport, the coast road or the AP-7 puts you inside it.

Where a foreign plate actually stands

The Spanish system runs on the DGT environmental label: diesel from Euro 4 earns one, and the sticker costs EUR 5 — but it is issued only to Spanish-registered vehicles. A foreign-plated car therefore proves nothing with a sticker. It registers with the metropolitan AMB foreign-vehicle register before entering, and the cameras check that list. A compliant but unregistered foreign car reads as a violation.
